Visit the capital city of Santo Domingo, and marvel at its architectural, historical and cultural wonders. Santo Domingo is the oldest continuously inhabited European settlement in the Americas and the largest city in the Dominican Republic and the entire Caribbean. Santo Domingo is the site of the first university, cathedral, castle, monastery, and fortress in the New World. The city's Colonial Zone is considered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. During your tour, you will see "Los Tres Ojos" (the three eyes caves), the Columbus Alcazar, the Cathedral of Santa María la Menor (First Cathedral of the New World). You will also wander in the Colonial Zone and discover a wonderful panoramic view at the Columbus Lighthouse and the Residential Palace. It is the most popular excursion in the Dominican Republic. With its white sand, turquoise water and only 42mi2, the indefinite view of the sea will probably win your heart. The excursion starts at the early morning, when the bus comes to pick you up at your hotel. The pickup time depends on where you are staying. The bus heads first to Bayahibe, which is about 11/2 hours drive from Punta Cana. The boat to Saona will be waiting for you there (Usually a Catamaran to go and a Speed Boat to come back). The price of the excursion includes the round-trip transportation, the professional guide, the catamaran and the speedboat to Isla Saona, the barbecue and buffet lunch, and the snacks and drinks that you could be willing during the day.
